Session 9.
Classroom Behaviour Management.
Here are a few questions that may help things are not working out in a classroom:
• Can I develop strategies that will improve the learning behaviour of my classes?
• What impact does the way I manage my class have on what the students learn?
• What would happen if I ignored bad behaviours and focussed only on my teaching practice?
• How effective are my current methods of managing my classes?
PMI” (plus, minus, and improvement)
Plus: What has done well that had a positive impact on the learning environment of my class?
• Encourage students with more questions and group learning
Minus: Describe an incident that is difficult for you to manage the classroom behaviour?
• When students complained that other classes were getting better grades than them. It was very hard for me to reason with them until I asked whether they wanted the true picture of their efforts and what I thought they could do to improve.
Improvements: Set a target for yourself in terms of improving your response to poor classroom management.
• Get student feedback
• Be transparent in your decision making
• Early intervention will stop potential problems.
Here are a few things that can help us to become an effective teacher:
• Be prepared what you are going to teach.
• Remain silent when students are making noise. Walk towards to the student if he/she is too noisy and have a good sense of humour.
• Welcome latecomers, at the end of the class ask them why they are late.
• give students time to think before giving them the answers.
Session 10
In this session we were split in 5 groups with each group consisting of four people. We were given tags to wear that had a number, a shape and a letter. We were asked to write and explain our best teaching or learning practice or experience.
Feedbacks
• Sharing of experiences leads to confidence building.
• People may be able to express their ideas a lot better on a piece of paper after they had time to think about it.
• Understanding a learner’s point of view is important which can only be achieved through a conversation.
Later Nuddy mentioned that there are 4 main areas for the assessment, which includes the following:
1. Personal and professional reflection.
2. Critical Analysis.
3. Teaching practicum.
4. Professional learning conservation.
Evaluation of our current learning space as tutors as well as learners.
• Unusual shapes of the room and small class space makes it difficult to carry out group discussions.
